Massive Updates: NetbookInstaller 2 Guide, Others Updated
Big news folks: NetbookInstaller 2 has been written and uploaded! This guide allows those who do not have a Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard to install Mac OS X via USB disk drives. This includes steps for Windows, Linux, and Tiger! After weighing all the options I finally found a solution for Windows that didn’t require a bunch of bloated software, and it also makes the techniques similar for all three operating systems.
I’ve also made a few adjustments to the NetbookInstaller 1 guide, and guide 3 has been updated to reflect the newer NetbookCD 0.8.3 RC3 ISO that has just been uploaded. Go check it out, have fun, and of course leave your comments or e-mails about your experience with these new updates.

as for the linux version
mount, df -h, dmesg, and gparted are also useful for finding out the correct drive letters, and sda and hda are usually the first drive in the system which would have your operating system on.
spelling mistake: “Computer running a modern Linux disrtibution”
i had to use sudo to use dd on fc11.
“5. Enter this command: dd bs=1m if=”
bs=1m should be bs=1M as per the screenshot.
but im getting operating system not found on my mini9, had a look seems to be first partition not recognized but the second one with chameleon is sorta, will work on it after breakfast mm.

Thanks for the tips. I fixed the spelling errors, the screenshot probably has it wrong now (I had to redo it to fix another error) but I’ll fix that at another time.

yeah im getting operating not found, with multiple flash drives and dd’ed on debian lenny and fc11 with the following command and different bs values.
dd bs=1M if=/home/testing/NetbookCD_0.8.3RC3.iso of=/dev/sdb
partition 2 of the drive mounts as
/dev/sdb2 on /media/NetbookCD type hfsplus
and fdisk /dev/sdb reports
Warning: invalid flag 0×0000 of partition table 4 will be corrected by w(rite)
and no partitions.
can cd images even be dd’ed to flash drives?

I wouldn’t have posted the instructions if it didn’t work. Trust me, I spent several hours trying to figure this all out. I’m not sure why Linux isn’t working correctly right now for you.

what would continuous rebooting generally be caused by with the bootloader? bios incompatability?
i see 4 lines that start with boot flash very quickly after it loads the drive then reboots

Just spent the entire evening trying to get this to work. The only result is the Netbook shows boot 0 about 20 times and just sits there. Nothing else happens. rebuilt the flash drives 3 times and no change. Any ideas? Thanks.

I’m going to need a whole lot more info than that.
